Kindergarten Admissions Policy
It is the policy of St. Paul’s School to ensure that each child admitted to the Kindergarten class is ready to learn the Kindergarten curriculum.
Age Requirement
In order to be assessed, a child must be age five (5) by December 1.
Application Requirement
A St. Paul’s School Application Form must be received by August 5.
St. Paul’s School Families
St. Paul’s School, Preschool and Parish families will be given order preference when considering admissions to Kindergarten.
Applications
Applications will be accepted until August 1. If, in the determination of the Admissions Committee, a child does not have the readiness skills needed for Kindergarten based on observation, assessment and a preschool report, St. Paul’s School reserves the right to deny admittance.
Kindergarten Readiness Assessment
The school administers a Kindergarten Readiness Assessment to determine readiness for school. Readiness includes specific assessment tools, language development, basic skills observations, preschool experience, familiarity with books, puzzles, playground games, blocks and other manipulatives, ability to follow directions, and experience with an established routine.
Kindergarten Assessment Dates
Testing for Fall Kindergarten Classes will be held in march of the previous school year. A testing date and time will be scheduled once an Application and all requested information has been submitted. Testing for kindergarten includes a child’s cognitive, social and fine motor skills.
Requirements for Kindergarten
- Non-refundable Application Fee in the amount of $50.00
- Current Immunization Record
- Birth Certificates
- Successful preschool experience (full-year highly recommended)
- Preschool Questionnaire completed by current teacher and mailed by the teacher to St. Paul’s
School, c/o Admissions Committee, 6735 Fayette Street, Haymarket, VA 20169 - Meets age requirement (Age 5 by December 1, 2009)
- Passing Assessment (social and cognitive)
- Successful Parent Interview
Notification of Acceptance
Families will be notified of an acceptance or wait-list, in writing, within two full work weeks after completion of all the above mentioned requirements.
